Closing of Dana College spells end of volleyball program, many uncertainties for players
by Darren Ivy/NebVolleyball

BLAIR – The start of July was supposed to mark the final summer preparations for the Dana College volleyball team.

Instead, the members of the team along with the rest of the approximately 500 students who attend Dana, were told that their college would be closing its door and not be open for the 2010-11 school year after an accrediting body's decision earlier in the day not to reaccredit Dana if officials completed a planned sale of the college to a group of out-of-state investors.

"The team has not met yet, but we are all super close so I have talked to a lot of the girls and we are all really sad and disappointed," said Katie Dittmer. "We were all so excited about next season and worked hard in the off season and already started summer workouts. I feel for all the seniors who worked so hard everyday in practice and are not able to play their last season at Dana. We all just feel lost right now. I wish good luck to all my teammates who are hoping to play next season, I hope they can find somewhere to play on such short notice."
